NHTSA reports that child safety seats, when used properly, can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for children less than one year old and 54 percent for children between the ages of one and four years old.

The current Indiana child passenger restraint law requires all child occupants (ages 15 and younger) to be properly restrained in a child restraint device or seat belt in all seating positions in all vehicles. Effective July 1, 2009, the Indiana child passenger safety law was amended to remove exemptions regarding antique motor vehicles (with the exception of vehicles manufactured without safety restraints) and out of state drivers. In addition to legislative efforts, child passenger safety experts have developed recommended safety standards and best practices.

An 18 wheeler driver and spotter were trying to unload the trailer. The trailer became entangled with three power lines. A fire broke out in the rear of the 18 wheeler. Another employee grabbed a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. An electrical surge of energy struck the employee with the fire extinguisher. He died as a result of his high voltage electrocution injuries.

Indiana State FACE Investigators' Recommendations to Prevent a Similar Electrocution Accident

1. Employers should ensure barricades and barriers shall be installed to prevent accidental contact with energized lines or equipment.
   
2. Employers should ensure use of vehicles and other equipment in restricted or hazardous areas shall be controlled at all times by designated employees.
   
3. Employers shall provide an educational program to familiarize employees with the general principles of fire extinguisher use.
