What to Do after a Truck Accident Indiana
Posted on January 11, 2012 by Ronald Todd
Truck Wrongful Death Indiana
Being involved in an 18 wheeler crash can be very traumatic. Unfortunately, drivers in Indiana are involved in trucking accidents on a regular basis. Many drivers do not know their rights and responsibilities after a truck accident. With the aid of a semi truck lawyer, you can avoid being one of them.
Rights and Responsibilities at the Scene
- Do not move vehicles unless causing a hazard
- Call 911
- Help anyone injured if qualified
- Exchange information with other driver
- Obtain witness contact information
- Make no statements except to the investigating police officer
Considerations after a Trucking Accident
Victims of truck accidents find themselves trying to negotiate with large trucking companies. Trucking companies have great resources. They have legal advisers that will aggressively protect the trucking company's interest. They can use intimidating tactics on unrepresented victims. Additionally, many commercial trucking companies are out of state. This complicates legal matters.

Heavy Traffic Increases the Risk of Aggressive Driving Accidents in Indiana
Posted on January 04, 2012 by Ronald Todd
With congested roadways, road construction delays and hurried motorist, aggressive driving has been increasing at a dramatic rate. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) defines aggressive driving as "the operation of a motor vehicle in a manner that endangers or is likely to endanger persons or property." In a NHTSA study, 60% of all drivers feel aggressive driving is a major threat to them and their families. This perceived threat is a reality. A substantial number of all fatal auto accidents were caused by an aggressive driver.
Aggressive driving behavior includes:
- Speeding or driving too fast for conditions
- Improper or unsafe lane changing
- Tailgating
- Improper passing
- Confrontational gestures or other communication
- Flashing lights or honking at another motorist to show irritation with that driver
- Cutting off or blocking another motorist
- Disregarding traffic signals
- Darting in and out of traffic
- Failure to yield the right of way
If you encounter an aggressive driver, you should protect yourself by:
- Staying as far away from that driver as possible
- Remaining calm
- Ignoring the other driver's taunting behavior
- Refusing to allow yourself to retaliate in response to the aggressive driver
- Allowing the aggressive driver to pass you as soon as possible
Contact an Indiana Personal Injury Lawyer at Ronald S. Todd, P.C., if you are a victim of a car accident in Indiana.
Do not let an aggressive driver take control of your life. Whether you were in a head-on collision, intersection accident, or you were injured when an aggressive driver ran a red light or drove recklessly, we will make sure the aggressive driver is held responsible.
Understanding that you have immediate financial concerns, we handle all personal injury cases on a contingency basis. You will not pay attorney fees until we get you the compensation you deserve for your injuries and property damage. We offer off-site visits for clients who are unable to make it to our offices.

An 18 wheeler driver and spotter were trying to unload the trailer. The trailer became entangled with three power lines. A fire broke out in the rear of the 18 wheeler. Construction Site Hazards of Truck Traffic
Posted on October 19, 2011 by Ronald Todd
Truck traffic is prevalent at construction sites. Trucks are construction site hazards and can lead to construction fatalities. When working around semi trucks and 18 wheelers, construction site safety standards must be followed. Employers need to identify these safety risks involving trucks and protect their employees. Too many times, construction deadlines are the main focus with safety taking the backseat. Safety must be the number one priority with general contractors and employers at a construction site or everyone will be endangered. Unfortunately, some general contractors and employers risk severe injuries to workers -- severe traumatic brain injury, quadriplegia injury, spinal cord injury paralysis and even wrongful death -- for profits.
If you or your loved ones have been injured at a construction site, call a construction injury attorney at 317-375-7718 or online at www.ronaldtoddlaw.com today for a free conference.

Electrocution Accident Kills an Indiana Worker
Posted on October 13, 2011 by Ronald Todd
During the docking of an 18 wheeler, the truck trailer became entangled with overhead power lines. A fire broke out. A worker on the loading dock utilized a fire extinguisher to try to put out the fire. A surge of electricity jumped to the fire extinguisher and electrocuted the dock worker.
This wrongful death of the worker was preventable if the following precautions had been taken:
- His employer had installed barricades and barriers to prevent accidental contact with energized lines or equipment.
- His employer had restricted the use of vehicles and other equipment to controlled times by designated employees.
- His employers had educated employees with the hazards of electricity and the proper use of fire extinguishers.
(NIOSH FACE Program: Indiana Case Report 97IN117).

Changing of an 18 Wheeler Truck Tire Ends in Wrongful Death Indiana
Posted on October 13, 2011 by Ronald Todd

He was struck by a lock ring when a tire exploded. He died from a cardiac contusion due to the fatal blunt trauma. Companies can prevent this from happening to their workers if they:
- Train all workers on the safe procedures for changing an 18 wheeler truck tire; and
- Routine inspections are performed by a competent person of the rim flanges, rim gutters, ring head surfaces and head of tires.
