Wrongful Death Indiana of Worker on Roof
Posted on September 22, 2011 by Ronald Todd
Indiana worker was taking measurements on a roof. He was unaware of a temporary opening in the roof. He falls from roof through the temporary hole. He landed on a concrete floor. When he falls from height off the roof, he received a severe traumatic brain injury along with blunt impact chest and abdomen injuries. He died from these injuries.
These types of construction fatalities are preventable. Indiana State FACE Investigator's recommended the following to eliminate these construction site hazards:
- General contractor must cover or guard all roof openings;
- General contractor must ensure that appropriate fall protection is available and correctly used when working where there is danger of falling; and
- General contractor must ensure that a competent person performs safety inspections of the job site.
(NIOSH FACE Program: Indiana Case Report 96IN067).
