Labor Dies in Indiana when a Tractor Overturns
Posted on September 22, 2011 by Ronald Todd
Tractor flips over while pulling stumps out. The tractor did not have either a rollover protection system or a seat restraint. The worker died from a crushed chest due to the blunt force trauma.
During the investigation, NIOSH arrived at the following conclusions:
- Every tractor should have a rollover protection system and a seat restraint;
- Tractors should only be used as they are intended by the manufacturer; and
- The tractor's rear hitch should only be used to tow loads.
(NIOSH FACE Program: Indiana Case Report 94IN039).
