Indiana Worker Killed in Electrocution Accident
Posted on September 22, 2011 by Ronald Todd
While loading fertilizer in an 18 wheeler truck, an auger and conveyor belt stopped. The grain mill worker went to check the fuse box. The fuse box was not de-energized. The worker received electrocution injuries when changing the fuse.
Electrocution accidents are preventable if the following precautions are taken:
- Safety reviews performed to identify construction site hazards;
- Appropriate control measures implemented;
- Adequate training provided to workers;
- Comprehensive written safety program developed, implemented and enforced;
- Electrical safety training provided to workers whose jobs require them to be around electricity; and
- Proper rescue procedures are created and followed.
(NIOSH FACE Program: Indiana Case Report 94IN046).
