Indiana Worker Falls from Roof and Dies
Posted on September 22, 2011 by Ronald Todd
Indiana worker dies while applying grout near the edge of the roof without fall protection equipment. He falls from height off the roof and receives severe traumatic brain injury. Prior to his fall from the roof, he had been diagnosed with emphysema and pneumonia.
Indiana FACE Investigators concluded that these types of construction fatalities are preventable if:
- Workers are not placed in situations disallowed by their medical conditions;
- Formal safety programs are developed and implemented to control falls from height and other construction site hazards;
- Fall protection equipment is available and used correctly; and
- Work place safety is the number one priority at the job site.
(NIOSH FACE Program: Indiana Case Report 95IN075).
