Construction Falls from Height Cause the Majority of Construction Fatalities
Posted on September 22, 2011 by Ronald Todd
In 2007, there were a record number of fatalities from falls from height as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. In 2008, construction fatalities from falls from height to a floor, walkway or against an object have increased from the 2007 level. 85% of all wrongful deaths from falls from height are to a lower level.
The first step to prevent construction site hazards from falls is for contractors in charge of the construction site to have a plan to identify and protect workers from fatal falls at the job site. If contractors would comply with OSHA regulations, fatal falls could be eliminated. Today, falls from height are the leading cause of deaths at construction sites.
