Lockout/Tagout Procedures Prevent Electrocution Injuries in Indiana
Posted on September 21, 2011 by Ronald Todd
The major cause of electrocution accidents are the lack of lockout/tagout procedures. OSHA requires the use of lockout/tagout procedures to prevent construction fatalities.
When lockout/tagout procedures are improper or not used, the following may result:
• Electrocution injuries;
• Electrical shock injuries;
• Severe burn injuries;
• Amputation injuries;
• Eye injuries; and
• Wrongful death injuries.
To eliminate these construction site hazards, OSHA requires the following:
- An authorized and trained worker performs the lockout/tagout procedure;
- All equipment has a single electrical power source;
- Lockout/tagout procedures are developed for each and every piece of equipment; and
- Restoration of electricity is performed in a controlled manner.
