Objects at Indiana Construction Sites that Fall from Heights Kill Workers
Posted on September 14, 2011 by Ronald Todd
General contractors are required by their contract to identify and plan for construction site hazards to keep their jobsites safe for workers. An object that falls from height can cause construction site fatalities and other severe injuries such as severe traumatic brain injury, spinal paraplegia injury, quadriplegia injury and paraplegia injury. OSHA regulations, if followed, can prevent these construction site fatalities and other severe injuries.
These accident preventions include:
- Rigging and equipment shall be inspected regularly by a competent person and maintained in safe operating conditions (29 CFR 1926.995); and
- Safety training must be in place that allow workers to recognize and eliminate unsafe conditions and be made aware of the safety plans to eliminate the safety and health construction site hazards (29 CFR 1926.21(b)(2)).
