Indiana Workers Need Protection from Electrocution Injuries
Posted on September 14, 2011 by Ronald Todd
Electrocution injuries can occur when equipment is being used that may come into contact with power lines. Electrocution accidents are construction site hazards that can lead to construction site fatalities.
To help prevent an electrocution accident, general contractors must insure that their job sites have the following in place:
- A safety and health program that provides guidance for safe operations (29 CFR 1926.20(b)(1)).
- A training program for all workers at the job site that instruct the workers how to recognize and avoid unsafe conditions which apply to their work and their work areas (29 CFR 1926.21(b)(2)).
- A plan to restrict equipment from coming within 10 feet of electrical distribution or transmission lines if the high voltage lines are not de-energized, visibly grounded or protected by insulated barriers (29 CFR 1926.550(a)(15)(i)).
For additional information see:
- Ground Fault Protection on Construction Sites (OSHA 3007)
- Construction Safety and Health Standards (OSHA 2207)
- OSHA Safety and Health Training Guidelines for Construction (National Technical Information Service - Order No PB-239312/AS)
