Indiana Electrocution Injuries can happen because of an Improper Lockout/Tagout
Posted on September 14, 2011 by Ronald Todd
Improper lockout/tagout is the leading cause for electrocution injuries. The purpose of lockout/tagout procedures is to prevent the release of hazardous electricity. In an effort to prevent an electrocution accident caused by a faulty lockout/tagout, OSHA has created regulations to protect workers.
OSHA Safety Requirements
- Have an authorized and trained employee to perform the lockout/tagout;
- Have only a single power source running to the piece of equipment being worked upon;
- Have a competent person develop an individual lockout/tagout procedure for every piece of equipment; and
- Only restore electricity to a piece of equipment in a controlled manner.
See OSHA regulations under 29 CFR 1910.147.
