Indiana Construction Workers are being Crushed by Falling Walls

Posted on September 14, 2011 by Ronald Todd

A construction worker was crushed by a falling wall. A front end loader was removing debris from the demolition site when it struck a cement block wall. The wall collapsed on a worker near the wall. This accident and other similar accidents would have been avoided if OSHA's construction safety standards had been followed and would have prevented these construction site fatalities and other serious injuries such as severe traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury paralysis, quadriplegia injury and paraplegia injury.

OSHA regulations require that:

  • Everyone not involved in the demolition must be excluded from the demolition area (29 CFR 1926.859(a));
  • A competent person must continually inspect the work to detect construction site hazards of weakening of walls or other deterioration of materials (29 CFR 1926.859(g)); and
  • Warning signs posted where immediate construction site hazards exist.
