Electrocution Injuries happen when OSHA Regulations are not followed
Posted on September 14, 2011 by Ronald Todd
Everyone working around energized power lines must take precautions to avoid the accidental contact with those lines. These electrocution accidents result in numerous construction fatalities. Unfortunately, most of these construction fatalities could have been prevented if the contractors and employers had complied with the OSHA safety standards.
OSHA Requirements
- Guards or barriers must be erected as necessary to adjacent energized power lines (29 CFR 1926.950(d)(1)(v)).
- A competent person must determine by an inspection or test of all mechanical equipment, energized lines, equipment, conditions of poles and location of circuit before starting work (29 CFR 1926.950(b)(1) and 950(a)(1)).
- Workers must be trained and instructed on how to recognize and avoid unsafe conditions and on regulations that apply to their work environment (29 CFR 1926.21(b)(2)).
For additional sources of help see:
- Construction Safety and Health Standards (OSHA 2207).
- OSHA Safety and Health Training Guidelines for Constructions (National Technical Information Service - Order No. PB-239-312/AS).
