Electrocution Accidents Kill Indiana Workers
Posted on September 14, 2011 by Ronald Todd
Power lines are construction site hazards. Electrocution injuries are caused when workers accidentally make contact with overhead power lines.
To avoid an electrocution accident, the controlling contractor must do the following:
- Have safety plans that note the presence of power lines on the job site (29 CFR 1926.21(b)(2)).
- Provide training to all workers to recognize and avoid electrical hazards (29 CFR 1926.21(b)(2)).
- Prevent workers from working near electrical lines that in the course of their work (29 CFR 1926.400(C)(1)).
- Guard all electrical lines against accidental contact by insulating or deenergizing the lines or by other means that will protect the workers (29 CFR 1926.400(C)(1)).
For additional information see:
- Construction Safety and Health Standards (OSHA 2207); and
- OSHA Safety and Health Training Guidelines for Construction (National Technical Information Service - Order No. PB-239-312/AS).
