18 Wheeler Accidents - Indiana

Posted on August 20, 2011 by Ronald Todd

An accident involving 3 semi-trailers closed both lanes of I-69 from 8:15 p.m. until 11:45 p.m. Tuesday evening. One driver was trapped in his tractor-trailer after colliding with two other tractor-trailers along Interstate 69 near Anderson, Indiana. All escaped with minor injuries, according to state police.

In a study by the Bureau of Transportation in 2008, the total number of large truck and 18 Wheeler crashes involved in fatal crashes was 128. That makes up more than 11.4 percent of Indiana's total number of fatal crashes.

Due to the higher rates of speed, driver fatigue and the sheer weight differences, the types of injuries involved in 18 wheeler crashes tend to be much more severe. A complete spinal cord injury, paralysis injury, quadriplegia injury and even death may occur as a result of one of these crashes.
