Furnace Technician Dies from Electrocution Accident

Facts of Wrongful Death Indiana
An 18 wheeler driver and spotter were trying to unload the trailer. The trailer became entangled with three power lines. A fire broke out in the rear of the 18 wheeler. Another employee grabbed a fire extinguisher to put out the fire. An electrical surge of energy struck the employee with the fire extinguisher. He died as a result of his high voltage electrocution injuries.
Indiana State FACE Investigators' Recommendations to Prevent a Similar Electrocution Accident
- Employers should ensure barricades and barriers shall be installed to prevent accidental contact with energized lines or equipment.
- Employers should ensure use of vehicles and other equipment in restricted or hazardous areas shall be controlled at all times by designated employees.
- Employers shall provide an educational program to familiarize employees with the general principles of fire extinguisher use.
