Construction Accident Indiana: Avoiding Electrical Hazards
Posted on October 19, 2011 by Ronald Todd
Electricity can be dangerous at a construction site if not properly managed. Electrical injuries range from electrocution, electrical shock, electrical burns, loss of muscle control, thermal burns and internal injuries. Electrocution accidents happen most often when there is unsafe equipment, installation, environment or work practices.
Electrocution injuries are preventable if OSHA standards are followed. (See Subpart K of 29 CFR Part 1926.416 to 1926.417). Some practices under OSHA that prevent electrocution accidents include:
- Prior to inspecting or repairing equipment, make sure it is deenergized,
- Take proper precautions when working near power lines, and
- Use appropriate protective equipment.
