An Indiana Roofer Falls from Height and Dies

Facts of Construction Accident Indiana
A roofer was installing a tile roof on a two story building. He was applying grout near the edge without fall protection equipment. He fell off and landed on the sidewalk. He received a fatal traumatic brain injury from the blunt force injuries to his head. Prior to his fall, he had been diagnosed with emphysema and pneumonia.
Indiana State FACE Investigators' Recommendations to Prevent Similar Construction Fatalities
- Employers should ensure workers with medical conditions or physical limitations are not placed in work situations disallowed by medical conditions.
- Employers should develop and implement formal safety programs to help workers recognize, understand, and control fall hazards and other work hazards.
- Employers should ensure that appropriate fall protection equipment is available and used correctly when working at an elevation.
- Employers should encourage workers to actively participate in work place safety.
