The Dangers of Falls from Roofs during Construction
Posted on October 13, 2011 by Ronald Todd
Falls from heights are the number one cause of all construction fatalities. It is also a major cause for other serious injuries--severe traumatic brain injury, paraplegic injury, quadriplegic injury and spinal cord damage.
A contractor must protect all workers at the job site against falls from roofs when there is an unprotected side or edge. To protect against this construction site hazard of falls from height guardrail systems, safety net systems or personal fall arrest systems must be used. See the OSHA regulations at 29 CFR 1926.500 through 1926.503. If these precautions are taken, falls from roofs can be avoided.
