Scaffolding are Construction Site Hazards in Indiana
Posted on October 13, 2011 by Ronald Todd
Approximately 2.5 million construction workers use scaffolds in their job. Every year there are scaffolding accidents that result in nearly 5,000 injuries and 100 construction fatalities. Scaffolding injuries usually result in severe injuries because they involve falls from height. These injuries include severe traumatic brain injury, quadriplegic injury, and paraplegic injury. Three quarters of these scaffolding accidents involve:
- Failure of planking,
- Failure of scaffolding support,
- Worker slipping, and
- Worker hit by falling object.
Scaffolding accidents are preventable when the proper precautions are taken and OSHA regulations are followed under 1926 Subpart L, Scaffolds and 1926 Subpart M, Fall Protection.
