Formwork and Reinforcing Steel at a Construction Site Create Fall Hazards

Posted on October 13, 2011 by Ronald Todd

Falls from height can create catastrophic injuries regardless of what you are doing at a construction site. In fact, falls from height are the number 1 reason for construction fatalities and a major cause for severe traumatic brain injury, quadriplegia injury and paraplegia injury. To help prevent these accidents, OSHA regulations require workers on a vertical face of a rebar assembly built in place have fall protection at heights of 24 feet and above. OSHA considers the rebar assembly to be the same as a fixed ladder. However, in most cases, OSHA regulations require fall protection if a worker is at heights of 6 feet and above. (See 29 CFR 1926.500, 1926.501, 1926.502 and 1926.503).
