Indiana Motorcyclist Statistics show importance of helmets

Posted on September 11, 2014 by Ronald Todd

Motorcyclist fatalities have increased by an annual average of 4 since 2000, but decreased by 19 from 2008 to 2009. Among motorcycle operators involved in traffic collisions, operators ages 15 to 20 were most likely to not have been properly licensed. Over 70 percent of 15 to 20 year-olds involved in collisions in 2009 did not have proper motorcycle endorsements, a 0.8 percentage point increase from 2008.

Overall in 2009, 59.8 percent of motorcyclists killed in crashes did not have motorcycle endorsements. In the seventy-seven percent of the fatal motorcycle accidents in 2009, the riders were not wearing a helmet, which was a 5.9 percentage point increase from 2008. From 2005 to 2009, the incidence of unhelmeted motorcyclists involved in fatal motorcycle accidents decreased by 4 percent annually, compared to 2.2 percent for all fatal motorcycle accidents (regardless of helmet use).

With warmer weather comes the increased risk of fatal motorcycle accidents in Indiana. As the statistics show, the number of un-helmeted motorcyclists killed in collisions has decreased compared to the 2.2 percent for all fatal motorcycle accidents. But unfortunately sometimes all the endorsements and precautions taken aren't enough to protect you or your loved ones. If you or a family member have been seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Indiana, you do have options. Personal Injury Lawyer Ronald S. Hazards Associated with Dangerous Chemicals at Construction Sites

Posted on August 13, 2014 by Ronald Todd

Chemicals at construction sites can be hazardous if proper precautions are not taken. The common injuries associated with chemicals are chemical burns, respiratory problems, fires and explosions. Construction site hazardous, like chemical exposure, are usually preventable if proper safety precautions are taken. OSHA regulations, which are the minimal safety standards at a construction site, require that:

  • Hazards of the chemical are identified
  • All hazardous chemicals must be labeled and have material safety data sheets (MSDS)
  • Workers must be trained about the risks of the chemical, how to handle the chemical, how to protect themselves with personal protective equipment, how to clean up spills and how to dispose of the chemicals
  • Chemicals must be safely stored and secured

Construction injuries from construction site hazards can cause catastrophic injuries such as brain injuries, burn injuries, electrocution injuries, ladder injuries, paralysis injuries, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and wrongful death.

Even if you are receiving workers compensation, you may be able to make a claim beyond what you are currently receiving in order to ease the financial burden on you and your family during this difficult time and help you prepare for your future.

If you or a loved one has been injured by a hazardous chemical or material, you need an experienced Indiana accident lawyer. Construction accident cases can be won or lost based on investigation conducted by your lawyer. The sooner you hire a qualified lawyer, the sooner your rights can be protected. Evening and weekend hours in addition to weekly business hours are offered to better serve you. Car Accidents are Commonly Associated with a Speeding Motorist

Posted on August 13, 2014 by Ronald Todd

Thousands of people die in car accidents every year. Deaths on our highways have been increasing. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for people under the age of 30.

Speed is often the cause or contributing factor in a traffic accident. Speed reduces the reaction time drivers have to avoid the collision or road hazard. In addition, the faster the cars are traveling, the greater the impact. As a result, individuals in the accident may receive greater injuries.

If you have been involved in a car accident Indiana, you need to contact a personal injury attorney.

What do you do if you are in a car accident Indiana?

Posted on August 11, 2014 by Ronald Todd

In 2012, there were 5,615,000 car accidents throughout the United State (per NITSA). Of these traffic accidents, 33,561 resulted in fatalities. Another 1,634,000 drivers were injured. After a car crash, you may have many questions and may be unaware of your rights that need to be protected. An experience Indiana accident lawyer can be an invaluable source for legal help. Accident victims that consult a lawyer have a better chance to be happier with the outcome of their claim than those who handle their own claims.

After a car accident, there are three major things that you should do. First, you need to seek the medical care that you need. Many injuries may not be apparent right after the accident. If you fail to seek the medical treatment that you need, your injuries may become chronic or permanent.

After you have started the medical treatment, you should seek legal advice from an experienced Indiana injury lawyer. There are many personal injury lawyers available in Indiana. Make sure you chose the right lawyer for you. Without the help of a dedicated lawyer, you and your family may not receive the compensation that you deserve.

Lastly, you need to have your attorney contact the insurance companies and notify them of your car accident and your injuries from the accident. If you and your attorney delay in notifying the insurance companies, they may refuse to pay for your injuries.

At Ronald S. Todd, P.C., all car, truck and motorcycle accident cases are handled on a contingency fee basis. You will not have to pay any attorney fees until you get the compensation that you deserve.

Protect your rights and contact a qualified accident attorney at 317-375-7718 or online at www.ronaldtoddlaw.com today for a free case review.

Indiana Construction Accidents Involving Cranes

Posted on August 11, 2014 by Ronald Todd

Cranes are involved in construction accidents when they are not properly inspected and used. Many of these crane injuries are a result of workers being struck by an overhead load or struck within the radius of the crane’s boom. Electrocution injuries can occur when the crane comes in contact with power lines. Most construction accidents are preventable when proper precautions are taken. Some of these precautions include:

  • All crane operators on the jobsite need to be properly trained and qualified to operate the crane and do the work that needs to be performed (29 CFR 1926.21(b)(2), 29 CFR 1926.550(b), and ANSI B30.5 5-3.1.2)
  • All contractors using cranes on the jobsite must have written procedures to insure the method for lifting is within the manufacturer's specifications (29 CFR 1926.500(a)(1))
  • Cranes need to be inspected by a competent person before there are used. The inspection should include checking the controls to insure they are working correctly, checking the wire rope, chains and hooks for any damage, checking the load and rigging, etc.
  • Never extend a load over workers
  • Maintain a safe distance from power lines if not de-energized

Even if you are receiving workers compensation, you may be able to make a claim beyond what you are currently receiving in order to ease the financial burden on you and your family during this difficult time, and help you prepare for your future.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a crane accident, you need an experienced workplace accident lawyer. Crane accident cases can be won or lost based on investigation conducted by your lawyer. The sooner you hire a qualified lawyer, the sooner your rights can be protected. Evening and weekend hours in addition to weekly business hours are available to better serve you. Trench Collapses Cause Numerous Construction Fatalities

Posted on August 08, 2014 by Ronald Todd

Trench collapses result in numerous construction fatalities and hundreds of serious injuries every year. Like most other construction site accidents, trench accidents are avoidable if proper safety precautions are taken. Some of these precautions are:

  • Workers should never be exposed to unprotected trenches
  • Trenches need to have protective systems to avoid a cave-in
  • A competent person must inspect and protect trenches before workers are allowed to enter the trench. See 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P, 29 CFR 1926.651 and 29 CFR 1926.651(k).
  • After any hazard increasing event (rainstorms, vibrations, etc.), the trench needs to be inspected by a competent person
  • Trenches need to be properly sloped, shored and shielded by trench boxes or other types of support
  • Trenches should have a ladder, stairway or ramp for workers to enter or exit the trench
  • Excavated materials need to be kept away from the edges of the trench

Even if you are receiving workers compensation, you may be able to make a claim beyond what you are currently receiving in order to ease the financial burden on you and your family during this difficult time, and help you prepare for your future.

If you are looking for the fair and full compensation, you need a competent construction site accident lawyer to protect your rights. Cell Phones and Driving Don’t Mix

Posted on August 07, 2014 by Ronald Todd

The National Safety Council estimates at least 28% of all car accidents or approximately 1.6 million traffic accidents involve drivers using cell phones and texting. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration advises drivers to avoid using cell phones while driving because of the higher risk of being in a fatal traffic accident.

Drivers, who are paying attention and are not distracted, are the most important factor in keeping our roadways safe. Cell phones distract the driver and draw the attention of the driver away from the highway.

There are no excuses for drivers to be distracted while using their cell phones. If you have been seriously injured by a driver using a cell phone, an experienced personal injury lawyer can make sure you get the medical care and financial compensation that you and your family need and deserve. At the law offices of Ronald S. Todd, P.C., an Indiana accident lawyer will protect your rights after your car accident.

Do not let a negligent driver take control of your life. Whether you were in a head-on collision, intersection accident, or injured when a texting driver runs a red light or drives on the wrong side of the road, make sure that driver is held responsible.

You have the right to be angry after being injured by a driver using a cell phone, but you also have the right to take action and hold that driver responsible. Open during weekly business hours, phone lines are open twenty-four seven. Evening and weekend hours are available as well. Call 317-375-7718 or contact an Indiana injury lawyer online at www.ronaldtoddlaw.com for a free case review.

Slips, trips and falls on stairways are major construction site hazards. Many of these construction accidents result in significant injuries and deaths among construction workers. These slips, trips and falls are preventable if everyone at the jobsite uses safe work practices. The controlling employer on the construction project must ensure that all stairs have:

1 Treads free of debris or other materials
2 All slippery conditions remedied immediately
3 Treads that cover the entire step
4 Handrails
