Commercial driver's license holders (e.g., semi truck drivers) depend on their ability to maintain their driving privileges to earn a living and support themselves and their family.
CDL Violations and Penalties
A commercial driver's license (CDL) has its own set of rules and regulations that must be followed, including the rules regarding drinking and driving. In Indiana, a CDL holder is per se legally drunk if their blood alcohol content is above .04% (half the BAC of a non-commercial adult driver).
Drinking and driving is extremely serious, especially for CDL holders. The first time you're found guilty of OWI, you'll lose your commercial license for a minimum of one year (more if you were carrying hazardous materials). If you obtain a subsequent OWI conviction, you'll lose your CDL for life.
As with any driver's license, holding a CDL implies your consent to chemical testing (blood, breath-breathalyzer, or urine).
